For over twenty years I’ve been a professional salon industry business consultant and coach.
Now maybe you’re wondering, who is this guy and what gives him the right to consult and coach me? How can he help me get and keep more clients and do it profitably? How can he help me make more money – the money I should be making?
Well there are a number of reasons including the fact that I’ve opened, owned and operated salons myself and through those experiences I’ve learned a great deal about business management, marketing and people skills.
Some people call me an “industry expert” but I’d like I think it’d be more accurate to say that I’m a guy who knows what “salon life” is all about.
We know that our business is a “people” business and it’s the people our industry who’ve I’ve been privileged to have personally worked with and learned from that have added to my experience and expertise .
They include Frederic Fekkai, Jean Louis David, Garren, Scott Cole, Nicolas French, Beth Minardi, Rodney Cutler, the legendary Mr. Kenneth, as well many other well-known salon owners and hairdressers.
When it comes to business coaching I studied under and mentored with Michael Gerber, author of the small business classic – The E-Myth: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It.
I have a degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania plus I attended the program for Professional Managerial Development (PMD) at the Harvard Business School.
Most importantly though is everything I’ve learned, every experience I’ve had has in one way or another taught me about how to help other others produce results, and how interpersonal skills can either help or hinder individuals in business.
My work is based on seven strongly held beliefs I’ve developed over the course of almost three decades working with salon and day spa owners/managers.
Here is what I believe to be true:
You have unique gifts and something to contribute. My role is to help you identify your gifts and determine the actions which will allow you to make the greatest contribution, not only in your businesses, but also in your personal life, your communities, and in the world at large.
Intention is critical. With clear intention as your guide, you’ll stay focused on important goals and—at the same time—remain flexible and willing to change strategies and tactics to achieve those goals.
Intentionality drives creativity, which in turn helps you come up with ideas for which you’ll take ownership. And interestingly enough, clear intentions lead to solid results.
Curiosity should be encouraged. A curious mind discovers solutions in unlikely places. Asking questions, pushing the envelope, and looking at a multitude of options will win out over “this is the way we’ve always done it” every time.
Authenticity and integrity are essential. Business based on values, purpose, and passion is more fun and more profitable. A bi-product of being authentic, ethical, and working with integrity is that we’re comfortable with ourselves, proud of our work, and sleep well at night.
Quality counts. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. Mediocrity is for people who just want to make it through the day. My clients are committed to creating quality business products and services they are proud to put their names on.
Legacy matters. My sincere hope and belief is that those of us who operate in business as in life come from a place of clarity, integrity, purpose, and passion, and use our gifts in service to others, will leave the world a better place.
